Just Keep Swimming!
Just Keep Swimming is a side scrolling, underwater, game. You are simply a fish who is avoiding
obstacles, such as crabs throwing rocks and pufferfish, while collecting star fish for points. Super simple
game with a simple art style. There is only one game mode right now, despite there being a “Time
Attack” option. So it appears that in a future update there will be a new mode.
I’ve played this game for about an hour total and I have to say that the game feels very incomplete. It
almost feels like an alpha build. That being said, once the team at DnS get some updates in, this game
has serious potential to be a great time killer.
I have a few things that bothered me with this game. While there is a point system, it doesn’t really
provide a lot of incentive for me to replay. I would really like to see a distance meter in the future so I
can set a high score for distance and try to beat it, otherwise it kind of just feels like the same thing over
and over. Something that frustrated me was the crab’s rocks. The hit boxes on these seem quite off for
me, as they would go under me and they somehow would still count as hitting me (even though they
clearly were not) and I’d die. This goes for the pufferfish too.
Now that I’ve covered those things, let’s talk about the great things this game does have to offer. It runs
very smoothly, there is no lag in the gameplay at all and that is superb for a mobile game in my opinion.
The art is actually really colorful and very pretty, definitely a thing I love to see in games of any kind, so
props to the artist at DnS for doing a fabulous job! The music is friendly, upbeat and tropical; which fits
really well for this colorful little game. The game is also very simple to pick up and learn immediately,
definitely could let my little cousin play this game and he’d master it immediately.
Overall I’d say there is huge potential for this game. It has all the base things for a great mobile game:
great art, great premise, and really nice music. It just needs some love and some updates and I think it’ll
be on par with other mobile platformers like it.
I give this 5/10 Bamboo Shoots, but after this game gets some updates, I’ll definitely re-review it
because I know this has potential!
Easy to learn
Music is perfect for the theme
Hitboxes need work
Needs some updates
A review from Bamboo Review:
Pop’em to Stop’em is a free, fast paced, carnivalesque, balloon popping mobile game created by the creative minds at DnS. In this game you pop balloons to prevent them from reaching the top of the screen. In all the balloon popping madness there is also an evil monkey who will throw water balloons in the mix of the normal balloons. There are two game modes in Pop’em 2 Stop’em, free play allows you to relax and pop away while not having to worry about how many balloons get past the top, and Classic is where you test your true balloon popping skills with three difficulties.
Gameplay is very straightforward; pop balloons by tapping them with your finger and don’t let them pass the top of the screen. The only real gameplay mechanic issue that I’ve found is that popping the balloons can be very touchy at times. I notice myself smashing the screen with my thumbs only to pop one or two out of the plethora of balloons. I generally have to tap the balloons three or four times to pop them which can get pretty frustrating. Other than that, the game plays really well and is a huge hit with kids.
This game features pretty nice graphics for being a mobile game. I love the art style used in Pop’em 2 Stop’em, very cartoony and quirky. The balloons look very polished and three-dimensional which is a nice change of pace from most mobile games. The carnival music is really catchy at first, but sort of gets a bit repetitive after a few plays.
Pop’em 2 Stop’em is overall a fun, quirky, entertaining game. For being a free game, it definitely delivers. While it may not appeal to the most “hardcore” gamer, it definitely is a great game for casual gamers and children alike. It has high replay ability with the different game modes and difficulty levels. If you can get past the sometimes frustrating balloon popping mechanics it is a pretty good time killer.
Overall I give this 7/10 Bamboo Shoots!
High replay ability
Hit with kids
Frustrating Hit Boxes on the balloons
